Best bars in Liverpool – where to drink in Liverpool City Centre

It’s no secret that Liverpool is well and truly known for its incredible bar, restaurant, music and night-out scene. With the biggest party in Europe, AKA Eurovision, coming to Liverpool this year, it’s a really exciting time to visit the city and explore the bar scene for yourself. The question is though, where are the best places to drink in Liverpool City Centre? As a Liverpool local, I wanted to share my top recommendations of the best parts to visit in Liverpool. So, sit back and enjoy my A-Z of the best cocktail bars, wine bars and everything-in-between bars in Liverpool.

*This post will be regularly updated with new recommendations as and when I come across a new bar in Liverpool City Centre. The last time this post was updated was in March 2023.*

Albert’s Schenke

16 Hanover St, Liverpool L1 4AA

A Bavarian-style beer bar known for its wide selection of drinks on draft and traditional German food. A great spot for anyone staying near the docks. Check them out.

Albert’s Schloss

Radiant House, 18-26 Bold St, Liverpool L1 4DS

The Schenke’s big brother. Whilst pretty new to the Liverpool bar/restaurant scene, Albert’s Schloss has already made a big impact on Liverpool’s Bold Street with its beers, comfort food and live music. Book a table why don’t JA?

Brass Monkey

35 School Ln, Liverpool L1 3DA

A relaxed, city-centre bar complete with cosy fireplaces, cocktails and beers, and…swinging chairs. Check out their drinks.

Burnt Milk Hotel

33, Anchor Courtyard, Liverpool L3 4AS

An intimate wine bar on the Albert Dock serving up some of the best wines, cocktails and coffees in the city. Go for the wine, stay for the banging playlist (well…and the wine too). Visit their website.

Buyers Club

Yard, 24 Hardman Street Hardman, Liverpool L1 9AX

A relaxed neighbourhood bar with a great selection of wines and Italian-inspired dishes. Make the most of its outdoor area by booking a table al-fresco, and relax with a bowl of pasta and a great glass of barbera. Book a table.

Cafe Tabac

126 Bold St, Liverpool L1 4JA

The heart of Liverpool City Centre’s bohemian cafe/bar scene. Established in 1974, Cafe Tabac is known for its breakfasts (which run until 6 pm), coffees and cocktails. Browse their menu.

Castle Street Townhouse

25-27 Castle St, Liverpool L2 4TA

Sitting on a favourite street of mine in the city, Castle Street Townhouse serves up classic cocktails and comfort dishes in an elevated-yet-relaxed interior. Take a look.

The Grapes

60 Roscoe Street, Liverpool, L1 9DW

A great spot for getting cosy by the fire in the Winter months but, just as good come the Spring/Summer too. The Grapes is the perfect blend of traditional pub and bohemian decor, and serves up a proper real ale selection accompanied by weekly live jazz. Check it out.

The Jacaranda

21-23 Slater St, Liverpool, L1 4BW

A landmark for Liverpool’s music scene, The Jacaranda is steeped in Beatles history. Visit to get a taste of Liverpool’s music history and stay for the great drinks and live music. Learn more.

Kazimier Garden

32 Seel St, Liverpool L1 4BE

A favourite venue of mine in the entire city, Kazimier Garden (AKA, The Kaz) is a split-level beer garden known for its European and craft beer selection, great bar food and even greater music. Plan your visit.

L’Aperitivo

112 Bold St, Liverpool L1 4HY

Sleek, modern decor with neon accents, live DJs and a cocktail menu to die for. Bold Street’s newest cocktail bar is a must-visit for pre-night-out drinks. Browse the menu.

Little Hardware

Cropper St, Liverpool L1 1DB

Taking over the old Rapid Hardware site is Liverpool’s latest speakeasy, Little Hardware. Pop in for hardware-inspired cocktails in a cosy setting. What takes your fancy?

Manolo

41 Slater St, Liverpool L1 4BX

Another newbie in Liverpool’s cocktail scene. Manolo’s all about serving up classic cocktails with a Caribbean twist, as well as wines, champagne and high-end spirits. Check out the menu.

The Merchant

40 Slater St, Liverpool L1 4BX

An in-between-night-out spot. After a pre-night-out cocktail at Manolo, head over to The Merchant for a Fruili on draft and a slice of pizza in the garden before hitting the town for real. What slice are you going for?

Papillon

31 Hope St, Liverpool L1 9BQ

Great cocktails, draft beers and all-day food menus in one of the most beautiful areas in Liverpool City Centre. Also, a weird one, but Papillon also happens to be home to some of the best green olives I’ve had in my life. You heard it here first. Explore the menu.

Petit Cafe du Coin

60 Berry St, Liverpool L1 4JQ

A taste of Parisian life in the heart of Liverpool. For any wine and cheese lovers (my kindred spirits) visiting the city, this is an absolute must-visit. Get in early for a glass of red and cheese board, and park yourself at the bar to enjoy live jazz Thursday – Sunday. Peruse the wine list.

Teddy’s

6-10 Slater St, Liverpool L1 4BS

Liverpool’s number 1 dive bar. Teddy’s is the ideal place to spend a night out if you’re an indie music lover. Upstairs, find yourself transported to an American dive bar but head downstairs for a trip back to 2008. See it for yourself.
