Wayfarer Wines Pilgrims Way Pinot Gris 2024 Review

Bright and Refreshing English White Wine

When it comes to wine, England is best known for its sparkling offerings. And while English sparkling wine is popular for a very good reason, there’s more to explore outside of the bubbly stuff, and that’s still English wine. I’ll admit, I’m fairly new to still English wine, but the more I explore, the more I’m getting to know just how good it can be. So, this time, I’m diving into the Wine GB Silver-winning Pinot Gris 2024 from family-run Wayfarer Wines — a Kent-based winery dedicated solely to still English wine. Yep, that’s right – no sparkling wines in sight at Wayfarer Wines! Intrigued to see what an English Pinot Gris has to offer? Let’s get into my full review and tasting notes of the Pilgrims Way Pinot Gris 2024.

Wayfarer Wines Pilgrims Way Pinot Gris 2024: Tasting Notes

Let’s get tasting! From its appearance alone, the Wayfarer Wines Pinot Gris doesn’t give much away. It’s super pale in colour, with a slight tinge of light yellow lemon just peaking through – it’s almost completely clear! On the nose, there are initial light aromas of crisp lychee, tart gooseberry and citrus – a super refreshing combination of scents. As for the taste, this English Pinot Gris is dry and acidic. When you try it, take a sip, drink it and then tip your head forward – you’ll see just how acidic it is by how much you drool!!

Dribble test aside, though, this is such a refreshing and crisp wine. It’s sharp at first, but has a softness to it that balances things out nicely. It’s tangy, packed with gooseberry and lemon, lots of green apple and soft pear too. But for me, the lasting flavour was mostly mineral. Think of the scent of a pebbley beach – that’s what it tastes like. Might sound odd, but try it for yourself and tell me otherwise! Overall, it’s a cracking Pinot Gris and hopefully one of many English Pinot Gris’ that I’ll get to try.
