Apologising for taking time off seems to be a bit of a trend within the blogging community. It’s something that I’ve caught myself doing on occasion as well. I’ve noticed that it’s something that I do when I’ve been particularly busy or during times where I’ve just felt the need to take a break from it all. And realising this suddenly had me thinking, why should I have to apologise? Why should any of us have to apologise? So, I thought I’d write a post about why we don’t need to apologise for taking a blogging break.
For Most of Us, Blogging Isn’t Our Full-Time Job
There are only a handful of bloggers that I know who’s full-time job is actually blogging. In most cases we’re blogging alongside our studies, part-time jobs or even in addition to full-time jobs! It can be easy to feel as though blogging is your job because it IS a lot of work, but you need to remember that it isn’t. Taking a break every now and then to focus on your actual career is completely fine and isn’t something to feel upset about. Be proud of the fact that you’re even running a blog in addition to your other commitments, because it takes a lot to do!
Your Readers Are Normally Bloggers Too, They Understand!
I didn’t really begin reading blogs until I started blogging myself. From what I’ve learned in my time blogging it seems as though most of our readers are bloggers too. So, what does that mean exactly? It means that they understand how difficult blogging can be when you’re doing it alongside studies and work. No one is going to judge you for taking time off. Don’t put unnecessary pressure on yourself because your readers definitely won’t!
Time Off Can Completely Clear Your mind
Whenever I’ve had to take a bit of time off from blogging to focus on my personal projects or work, I’ve always felt a new passion for blogging when I come back to it. I’m not going to lie to you and say that I didn’t feel slightly annoyed with myself for slipping out of my blogging routine every now and then. But, I do feel as though I come back to my blog with so many more ideas after taking time off. Surely that’s not something to apologise for, is it?
If there’s one thing to take from this it’s that everyone has other things going on. Blogging doesn’t need to be the number one priority at all times!
Have you ever felt the need to apologise for taking a break from blogging? Do you feel guilty when you take time off? How do you feel when you come back to blogging after taking a break? I’d love to read about your experiences.
