Three Spirit Drinks: Non-Alcoholic Drinks Review

The Spirit Drinks - Female Original

For my latest booze-free drinks feature, I’m putting non-alcoholic drinks company Three Spirit Drinks to the ultimate taste test. Three Spirit Drinks are on a mission to show the world that alcohol-free doesn’t have to mean pleasure-free, so let’s see if their core range of spirits proves that to be true. About Three Spirit Drinks

Three Spirit Drinks are a UK-based spirits company bringing delicious non-alcoholic, plant-based and vegan drinks to the low and no alcohol market. At Three Spirit Drinks, they believe in celebrating what is added to their drinks rather than what is taken away (in this case, the alcohol) and are proving that booze-free drinks can be delicious, full of flavour, and actually pretty healthy too! Not only are Three Spirit Drinks passionate about their quality non-alcoholic drinks but they’re also committed to prioritising environmentally friendly methods in their work. Whether that be by using plastic-free, recyclable packaging or creating drinks that are 100% vegan and cruelty free.

Three Spirit Drinks: The Core Range

The Three Spirits Drinks core range consists of three main drinks; the Livener, the Social Elixir and the Nightcap. From the names alone you can get a pretty good sense of what the flavours of them might be, but I’ll go into detail about them all in a second. Each of the spirits are plant-based and were developed in partnership with UCL School of Pharmacy plant scientist Professor Michael Heinrich, along with herbalists and world-class bartenders. The result is a range of unique alcohol-free drinks that that be mixed into delicious cocktails to create amazing complex flavours.

The Core Range: Social Elixir

Kicking off the range we’ve got the Social Elixir (I think we can all get on board with anything described as “social”…especially in these current times). Made using lion’s mane mushrooms (check out the health benefits of them here), damiana and yerba mate (both are types of herb), the Social Elixir is described by Three Spirit Drinks as a “mood booster” and promises to “elevate evenings and lift spirits”. Sold.

The first thing I noticed when trying the Social Elixir was the initial buzz that you get from it. It’s really not dissimilar to the ‘first sip feeling’ you get from a cocktail, and it instantly gives you that party feeling. As for the drink itself, it’s almost like a syrup in its texture and has a lovely red colour to it. It’s full of really vibrant flavour and a slightly bittersweet taste.

The Core Range: Livener

Next up is the Livener which is a bright and vibrant spirit made from guayusa (a type of holly tree), guava leaf and schisandra (a fruit plant). Three Spirit Drinks describe this one as ‘invigorating’ and the “perfect party pick-me-up”. The flavour from this spirit was super tangy and fresh with a little bit of fieriness to it too. At the end it had some sweetness as well.

The Core Range: Nightcap

Finishing off the range, and the evening too, we’ve got the Nightcap. Made from tree saps and aromatic plants, the Nightcap is the perfect spirit to sip on during quiet evenings at home. With other ingredients being lemon balm and hops, the Nightcap’s ingredients create a feeling of calmness and has even been shown to reduce anxiety.

Despite not being one of the main ingredients in the drink, for me the overwhelming taste in the Nightcap is ginger. So, if you’re not the biggest fan of that then I apologise! I, on the other hand, am a massive fan of the plant so a gingery spirit is 100% up my street. On the nose, it was incredibly herbal. At first I wasn’t so sure about the scent but I think it just took a second to adjust to the strength of the flavour, and once you were familiar with it it was delicious.

Three Spirit Drinks: Final Thoughts

Overall it was most definitely another win for the low and no alcohol scene. Three Spirits Drinks are by far the most unique set of alcohol-free spirits that I’ve tried, and at no point did it feel like I was drinking an alcohol-free alternative to a gin, whiskey, rum etc. Their spirits are completely unique in flavour and I think that’s what makes them stand out so much in the alcohol-free market. They aren’t trying to offer an alcohol-free version of our favourite spirits. Instead, they’re delivering something completely original.

I’m slowly working my way through the list of mocktail recipes that they have over on the Three Spirit Drinks website. I’ve already found one that’s an absolute staple for Summer so I’ll be sharing my interpretation of it on here soon. In the meantime, why not check out some of my other alcohol-free drinks reviews.

  2. Love that Three Spirits believes in celebrating what makes a drink, as opposed to what is missing. Instead of offering an alternative, they offer something that is enjoyed on its own. I thought I would be a Social kind of gal, but the Livener and Nightcap both sound perfect to me, with their diverse and unique flavor combinations and spice.
