Restaurant Review: Minna, Liverpool

Could this be the best place for brunch in Liverpool?

Where are the best places for brunch in Liverpool, you ask? Well, I could stop you right there and say, long story short, there are bloody loads of great ones. But, instead, I thought I’d share one of my all-time favourite brunch spots in Liverpool by shining the spotlight on Minna. This female-founded cafe and restaurant has become a staple of mine whenever I visit Lark Lane – South Liverpool’s hub for independent shops, bars and restaurants. And for good reason, too! See what makes this one of the best independent brunch spots in Liverpool.

Sat at the top of Lark Lane, Liverpool (at the Sefton Park end of the street) is where you’ll find Minna, a female-founded and run cafe, bar and restaurant serving up beautiful brunches, lunches, coffees and cocktails. It’s a favourite spot with South Liverpool locals, so much so that if you’re visiting on a Sunday you’ll often find queues out the door once it hits midday. That’s how well-loved it is! Time it well though, and you’ll breeze through and be welcomed with a menu by their friendly staff. Once you’re in there, here’s what you should order…

What to order at Minna

One thing about me? I kind of hate an egg breakfast. I know, I know, it’s an unpopular opinion. But for me, the king of breakfasts has to be something sweet (or at least a sweet and savoury combination). And I know for a fact that there are others like me out there, right? Anyway, all this waffle (no pun intended) is me setting up to tell you that I would argue that there is no better place to get a sweet breakfast in Liverpool than Minna. And if there’s one thing in particular that you need to try it’s their seasonal French toast.

Minna seasonal French toast

What makes it seasonal? Well, the team at Minna regularly switches it up based on what ingredients are in season and match it with the vibes of the time of year. At the time of writing this, it’s a poached pear, vanilla cream, caramelised pecans and maple syrup number. Yes, I’ve tried it. Yes, it’s absolutely sensational. And yes, you should get down there as soon as possible to try it yourself. Some other recent favourites of mine have been their Black Forest French Toast and their Brioche loaf with blackberries, mascarpone, meringue and hibiscus syrup. Both of which were absolutely sensational. Pair them all with the coffee of your choice (I’m a simple cappuccino girl) and you’re onto a winner.

More brunch options from Minna, Liverpool

Okay, I’m aware this is starting to sound like an open love letter to Minna French toast – and maybe it is – but, for those of you who prefer an eggy breakfast, you’ll be happy to hear Minna has a bunch of them to choose from. Turkish Eggs and Smashed Avocado are just a few of their egg-focused breakfasts, with Roast Squash Sourdough also featured on the menu. Minna is also super vegetarian and vegan friendly, with a lot of their menu being vegetarian and vegan first with the option to add meat, rather than the other way around! I couldn’t recommend it enough to tourists and locals alike so next time you’re around Lark Lane be sure to walk in (no bookings!) and try Minna for yourself.
