When it comes to the Wintertime I find myself following a completely different routine to my usual schedule throughout the rest of the year. I think it’s because it’s darker, colder and overall a bit more miserable. It’s as if because everything is a little more gloomy I feel as though I need to spend that extra bit of time making my Winter mornings more appealing. So I’m sharing a few of my top tips on how to make your Winter mornings feel a little bit more cosy this season.
Set Your Heating On A Timer
It’s hard enough getting out of bed at the best of times, throw in the fact that Winter mornings are bloody freezing and it’s enough to make me never want to get out of bed. Honestly is there anything worse than getting out of bed to an absolutely baltic bedroom?
My ultimate tip is to set your heating to go on around 30 minutes before you’re due to wake up in the morning. That way when you wake up you’re welcomed with a lovely cosy house. It definitely makes getting out of bed a lot easier when all you want to do is stay cocooned in a blanket!
ALSO, a bonus tip! Set your towels up on the radiator before you go to sleep, then you’ll have super toasty towels the next morning for your shower…you can thank me later.
Set Up The Perfect Cosy Lighting
I’m not necessarily talking cute little fairy lights in this case (although who can resist how adorable they are?). I’m talking MOOD LIGHTING. Since more often than not we’re waking up to complete darkness outside during the Winter, lighting is key for creating the perfect cosy morning atmosphere. Rather than going full beam with the big lights (does anyone else call the main lights in their house the ‘big lights’?) put on a lamp or even light your favourite Winter candle.
It’ll instantly create that cosy feeling we’re all after, plus it’s also a lot less harsh on your eyes that early in the morning!
Make A Warm Breakfast
So you’ve created a cosy vibe in your living space…now it’s time to feel cosy on the inside with a delicious warm breakfast. My standard breakfast throughout the year is usually something really simple like a bowl of cereal or some fruit. But when it comes to Winter I almost always switch over to making a warm breakfast.
I’m not one of those people who’s really into breakfast and loves making homemade pancakes everyday. I like to keep it simple. I’m barely even awake in the mornings so I definitely don’t have the capacity to make restaurant standard meals that early in the day. My go-to is a simple bowl of porridge with banana chopped up and thrown it in. Then I’ll either top it with some homemade jam or frozen berries – depending on what I have in stock.
That’s everything you need to know to make your Winter mornings that little bit more tolerable this season. So go get your comfy pyjamas on, grab a hot drink and set your heating timer. It’s time to tackle Winter mornings!
