I Got Dressed Today #2

I’m back with another at home outfit for I Got Dressed Today! For anyone who’s new here, I Got Dressed Today is my new mini series focusing on at home fashion while we’re currently on lockdown here in the UK, and also around the world. In each post I share a specific outfit that I got dressed up in while I’ve been in lockdown. Whether it be for a special at home celebration or just to go for a walk around my local area. It’s basically just all about celebrating the small things like changing out of our pyjamas (which is 100% an accomplishment right now). Here’s my latest look.

My Current Uniform

This weeks current uniform is pretty similar to last time overall. My baggy jeans will forever be my trousers of choice for lounging in but for the top I switched out the jumper for a lighter option. I opted for one of my favourite ARKET long sleeved striped tops for a casual but kind-of put together look.

I Got Dressed Today: Supermarket Outfit

If I’m completely honest, not much has really happened since my last post in this series. Pretty much the only times that I’ve bothered to get dressed up were for the supermarket and for the occasional walk. So this time I’m taking you through an outfit that I wore to the supermarket this week.

I feel like I’ve been getting dressed up even more for simple tasks like the supermarket recently. Usually I’d wear something like this for a trip to town on a Saturday afternoon. But now I’m finding myself wearing those sorts of outfits to go to Tesco. It’s not like I’ve got anywhere else to go to show off my outfits…so Tesco it is.

The Blouse

I picked up this ARKET blouse last year in the sale (which seems to be a bit of a theme) and styled it up all throughout Winter over the top of a black poloneck. Since the weather picked up a bit I haven’t been wearing it as much though. I think when you always style a piece in one specific way it feels strange to try and wear it in a different way. So because I’d style it as a layer, wearing it as just a blouse felt strange to me. I have to say though, I’m actually really into the way I’ve styled it here. It’s a classic ‘jeans and a nice top’ styling and I’m feeling it. I was unsure about how I’d feel wearing it without layers but once I’d tried on the look I fell in love with it.

One of my favourite things about this blouse is that it actually has a longer back than front. I love a bit of asymmetry when it comes to fashion but it’s something that you don’t come across all that often in high street shops. The loose fit is another aspect of it that I’m a fan of. There’s nothing worse than restricting clothing in the warmer weather. But the billowy fit of it is super cooling throughout Spring/Summer.

The Jeans

A light denim jean is such a staple when it comes to Spring/Summer in the UK. Even in the height of Summer, jeans are still a pretty wearable item here because there’s usually still a bit of a chill. My Levi’s Wedgie Straight light denim jeans are my go-to’s at this time of year.

Faye standing in a garden wearing an ARKET yellow blouse, Levi's light denim jeans and Superga white trainers.

Overall Levi’s jeans really aren’t a vibe for me. I love the designs of them all but they just never seem to fit me properly. However, I picked these up around 18 months ago, back when I was in university, and they fit like a glove. Unfortunately, the Wedgie Straight jeans aren’t an all-season round item in Levi’s which is such a shame because I’d probably own every single colour of them if they were.

The Shoes

Again I went for my classic flatform Superga’s as I did in the last post. I won’t go into detail since I featured them last time but I think the fact that I’m wearing them this time as well just shows how versatile they are.

The Accessories

To tie the look together I decided to pop on one of my vintage necklaces which you might have spotted from my vintage jewellery collection. The v neck of the blouse gave me the perfect opportunity to add a little something extra to the look so I went with my red pendant necklace. I thought the yellowy/orange tones in the blouse would work well against the more reddish shade of the necklace. And I think they went beautifully against each other!

You Got Dressed Today

At the end of last months post you might’ve remembered me mentioning that I wanted to feature YOU in this series. Since we’re all in the same boat I wanted to get you involved in this series and see what you’ve all been wearing at home during lockdown on the days that you got a little bit more dressed up.

@gemmaajayne

To kick it off I wanted to share fellow ‘jeans indoors’ lover Gemma’s super sunny outfit that she wore for VE day last month. Definitely an excuse to get all dressed up! Like me she’s been making up random excuses for getting dressed up while she’s been at home and this ASOS dress has been a regular piece that she’s been dressing up in.

I love the bright yellow/orange colour of her dress, it just brings all the positive vibes! Keeping positive is super important right now but it’s also incredibly difficult to do. Dressing up in bright colours can really help improve your mood and I think her dress is the perfect feel-good mood-booster.

What’re your thoughts on the outfits I featured this week? Do you also have an at home uniform? Let me know in the comments. And remember to send me an Insta link to one of your favourite at home outfits! I’ll be featuring more of you in the next post.

I absolutely love that Arket blouse, the pattern is lovely! I’m starting to wear more skinny jeans, denim shorts and my Summery clothes around the house right now, I may as well get used to a Summer indoors! x

I love how the blue and yellow of your outfit compliment each other! I too love a little asymmetry in my clothes, especially along the hems of shirts. I am not a big jeans person, so my skirts and dresses are always the ones with the shorter fronts and longer bottoms, though some of my favorite pieces are uneven along the sides. 🙂

Asymmetric clothing is so cool! I think it’s a great way to try something a bit more ‘out there’. I love an asymmetric skirt/midi dress, they’re super flattering 🙂 x

It is so weird putting on actual outfits, isn’t it? I have to wear a uniform for work, but we have to travel to and from work in ‘normal clothes’ and then wash the uniform every night (healthcare), so when I went out yesterday, I had no clue what to wear. It just felt so alien trying to pick out an outfit!😂
I am loving that blouse, it is so pretty, and great that it is a versatile piece as well. Also lovely pairing with the jewellery!

    Thanks for sharing!

I love this series! And I totally agree with you about getting dressed up for nothing these days. My mum’s team at work have zoom drinks after work on a Friday and I’ve been joining them for a glass of wine (nothing better to do right now) and I find myself making more effort with my Friday outfit…for people I don’t even know, and they can barely see me 😂. I love that blouse! And I know exactly what you mean about items feeling weird when you style them differently x

Love your supermarket outfit! The blouse is very pretty. I feel like I also get a bit more dressed up just for going to the food shop at the moment, I’ve got no where else to go and show off my nice clothes so may as well do it at a food shop! I’ve been trying to get dressed more often in the day now even if I’m not going anywhere, sometimes its hard to be motivated to get dressed in something other than joggers or pj’s though.

This is fun! I’ll admit, you’re making more of an effort than I have been as of late. Personally, I’ve been largely getting dressed based on what outfits will make me smile – which means that most days I’m wearing Halloween-esque leggings and t-shirts hahaha! That being said, I work from home and my husband has been doing all our grocery shopping, so I’ve only had reason to go somewhere public once during the lockdown, when my massage therapist opened back up. I did put a little more effort in that day.

Aaaa I love this series idea so much! And yes, so true, wearing a piece that you normally style in a different way either on it’s own or in a new combination is so strange but you mentioning it has really tweaked me to try and mix up some pieces I usually style in one way. I’m all for versatility!

Yes to jeans to, I have one pair of jeans from somewhere online like PLT or Missguided (can’t remember for the life of me where it was) and they are super high waisted, super baggy flare cut and they are the only jeans that fit me comfortably. Finding comfortable jeans is something beyond impossible for me! I have a pair of Levi shorts but they give me the bad kind of wedgie, haha.

I wonder if jeans will make come back? They really seemed to have disappeared from the style scene these days. Must get back onto my Instagram because I’d love to take part in the series!
