Over the years I’ve often found myself struggling to get in the mood for ‘the most wonderful time of the year’. It’s not that I’m a Grinch or anything, it’s just that as you get older you can’t help but feel that the magic of Christmas fades. And instead you start to understand the more stressful aspects of the season (Christmas shopping for one!). I know that I’m not alone in my thinking so I’ve put together a list of some of my favourite ways to get in the mood for Christmas for those of you who, like me, sometimes struggle to feel festive.
How To Get In The Mood For Christmas: Watch Your Favourite Christmas Film
This is a pretty straightforward way to start the festivities. There’s just something so special about setting up a super cosy atmosphere (we’re talking cinnamon candles, ambient lighting and the fire) and putting on your favourite festive film. Some of my go-to films during the Winter are classic rom-coms like Love Actually and The Holiday. You really can’t beat a seasonal romance film can you? I’m not going to deny it…I also love a good ‘ole cheesy Christmas film. I have a bit of a tradition of watching Nativity! on Christmas Eve as part of my Christmas Eve routine so I’d have to put that up there with my favourites. And then of course there’s White Christmas. It’s got everything you could ever want; singing, tap dancing, fabulous outfits, romance. It’s incredible! A must watch during the festive season for sure.
How To Get In The Mood For Christmas: Create The Perfect Festive Playlist
Creating playlists is something that I do all year round, to be honest I’d probably call it a hobby of mine (is creating playlists technically a hobby? let me know). So if there’s one thing that I get super excited to do around the festive season it’s creating the perfect Wintry playlist. I should say though that I’m actually really not a fan of Christmas songs at all. Of course there are a few classics that I like which are Driving Home For Christmas, Wonderful Christmastime, Merry Christmas Everyone and Happy Xmas (War Is Over) but overall I’m just a bit sick of Christmas music if I’m completely honest.
Which is why my perfect festive playlist usually consists of just a few Christmas songs. Aside from them I opt for songs that have a Wintry feel to them if that makes sense. I go for a lot of piano based songs, slow and relaxing tunes, maybe a few ballads etc. Just a load of songs that feel like Winter to me. Putting together a seasonal playlist always seems to get me excited about Christmastime so I’d definitely suggest having a go at making your own playlist.
