50 Of The Greatest Songs By Female Musicians

50 Of The Greatest Songs By Female Musicians - Female Original

As a teenager, most of my favourite musicians were either exclusively male musicians and bands or male-fronted bands. It was rare that you’d find me listening to female musicians. Which, now that I think back on, is absolutely crazy. The music industry as a whole is one that is still very much male dominated which is why it’s so important to celebrate and build up the incredible female talent that we have and have had whenever we can. With this in mind, I’ve put together a playlist of what I think are some of the greatest songs by female musicians.

My Favourites On The Playlist…

I could go through all 50 of the songs on this playlist and give my reasons for choosing them. But I’ll spare you the details and force myself to pick out just a few of them. My first favourite is Jessie Ware’s ‘Save A Kiss’ from her album What’s Your Pleasure? (2020). As an album What’s Your Pleasure could potentially take the number one spot for me as the best album of 2020. When it came out I had it on loop for WEEKS. It’s a real feel-good, disco-pop album and it’s everything that I love in a pop album. The whole album is absolute perfection but I ended up choosing Save A Kiss for this playlist.

Next up is ‘Put Your Records On’ by Corinne Bailey Rae. It’s a track that I listened to a lot as a child and has stuck with me over the years. It always manages to make me think of long drives and sunny days. Aretha Franklin’s ‘Chain of Fools’ is next up which, if you’ve been a longtime reader, you definitely won’t be shocked by at all. That song is always creeping up in my playlists. I even ended up featuring her in my ongoing music series, The Legend Slot, I love her that much. It’ll forever make me think of School of Rock (arguably my favourite film of all time) and ain’t mad about it at all.

Who are some of your favourite female musicians of all time? Are there any songs on my list that you’d put in your own playlist? If you want to do some of your own research and discover new female musicians then check out my 5 tips on how and where to find new music.
