3 Playlists To Listen To On Spotify This Spring

As you’ll know by now I’m all about the music content on my blog at the moment. I’ve been listening to more music than ever lately, with my new series The Legend Slot on the go and my monthly music magazine, groovin’, too! I’m working on plenty of new playlists of my own but, in the meantime, I thought I’d share some love for other playlists that I’ve been enjoying on Spotify recently as well.

Bossa Nova

What I love so much about Spotify is how easy it is to discover new music. Whether that’s through your ‘discover weekly’ or ‘release radar’ playlists. Or even through checking out a few new genres. And this month I’ve discovered a new genre of music. Well, not completely new… but it’s one that I haven’t listened to a lot of before. Bossa Nova.

A quick intro; Bossa Nova (meaning “new trend” or “new wave”) is a type of Brazilian music which became popular in the 50s/60s. Bringing together samba and jazz, Bossa Nova is often performed solely on a nylon-stringed guitar with the addition of vocals. However, it’s also widely performed in larger groups with a jazz-like arrangement – with the guitar playing the backing rhythm. Some notable artists from the genre include João Gilberto, Antônio Carlos Jobim and Luiz Bonfá.

Bossa Nova Spotify Playlist

This is the ultimate chilled Summer vibe playlist. I’ve been listening to it in the garden on the slightly sunnier days that we’ve had since being on lockdown here in the UK. I think it’s absolutely perfect for any Spring/Summer day. Whether you’re reading in the sun, doing a bit of gardening, cooking or even whilst having a few drinks (at home of course!).

There are quite a few completely instrumental tracks on the playlist which are perfect for relaxing. But there’s also some really great party tracks that you could definitely have a little dance to. A must listen for sure!

Roots Rising Spotify Playlist

My second discovery is the Roots Rising playlist. I’d say this is more of a background music sort of playlist than the Bossa Nova one. Simply because most of the tracks are incredibly chilled. For anyone who’s currently having to work from home, I think this could be a really great playlist to WFH to.

There were only a handful of artists whose names I recognised before I gave the playlist a listen, including Jade Bird, Leon Bridges and Ben Howard. So it was a great playlist for discovering loads of new artists.

Sweet Soul Sunday Spotify Playlist

Sweet Soul Sunday is a bit of a long-time favourite of mine when it comes to Spotify playlists. I’ve been listening to it for around a a year or so, so I guess it’s about time that I post about it! The playlist itself has been edited plenty of times within the period that I’ve been listening. And each time it’s updated with a load of great soul tunes. So expect it to change fairly frequently.

I do love that they change the playlist up all the time. It gives you time to discover new music without getting bored of the same tracks. It’s actually been updated today with a whole new set of songs! Looking at the new playlist I can already spy some of my favourite songs and artists. Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On (one of my favourite songs ever!), Aretha…of course, Sam Cooke and Gregory Porter’s Hey Laura. But there are also quite a few that I’m not familiar with. So I’ll be going and giving that a listen later!

Do you listen to pre-made Spotify playlists on the regular? Or do you prefer making your own? What are some Spotify playlists that you’d recommend to me? I’d love to know!

I love the sounds of Bossa Nova and Roots Rising (pun intended).
I love both making playlists, which combine my odd contrasting tastes in music, but I love listening to premade lists for the same reason; someone made them and their picks are always fascinating.

I really enjoyed listening to the Bossa Nova playlist – so glad I came across it! It’s a lot of fun making your own playlists but I definitely agree that it’s nice to listen to premade ones to see other peoples picks 🙂 x

This is great timing! I was using my lockdown boredom to try and discover some new playlists the other day but ended up falling into the trap of listening to about 15 that are almost the same trying to find ‘the one’ so not actually discovering anything new at all. Please tell me I’m not the only one that does that? Anyway, I clearly need help choosing so I’m going to check these out. I love the sound of the third one! x

I’ve for sure been guilty of listening to endless similar playlists in search of ‘the one’ on Spotify – you aren’t alone! Sweet Soul Sunday is amazing, there’s always such a great mix of older soul music and new artists too. A great playlist for discovering new musicians! x

Spotify does a great job curating their playlists. I’ll often listen to the Classic Acoustic and Essential Folk playlists. Other than that, I like to make my own playlists or go to a specific artist and see if they have any playlists. I go on binges of artist created playlists because I like to see what inspires my favorite bands.

I’m an Apple Music user… oops :’) I’m definitely a fan of making & using my own playlists, but I do like to turn to the ones Apple curates for me every now and then. Maybe I should reopen my Spotify account for the Bossa Nova playlist; that one definitely sounds up my street!

I like the sound of the Roots Rising playlist, especially as it’s so chill and you can put it on in the background whilst working – sounds perfect! <3 xx

These playlists are bomb! I’ve already found a few songs I like from each of them but I think my favorite playlist so far is the Sweet Soul Sunday one. It just makes me want to dance while cooking Sunday breakfast lol! I’m a big music person-rarely go a minute in the day without it- & I have a few different music platform apps on my phone. Thankfully, I’ll be able to enjoy these on Spotify too! Thanks for sharing them!

Glad you enjoyed listening! That’s the thing with the playlist – it’s always changing! My advice would be to ‘like’ all of the songs you enjoyed from the playlist, then you’ll remember them when they change it x
