My Christmas Eve Routine

Now, in the past I’ve definitely been someone who’s been caught up in the last minute shopping part of Christmas Eve. I’m sure we’ve all been there at some point. And I’m sure we can all agree that last minute holiday shopping is the absolute worst. After a few years of making the dreaded mistake of leaving everything until the last minute I’ve finally learned to either get my shopping done early or just leave it until after Christmas. But, if I’m not last minute panic shopping anymore then what exactly are my Christmas Eve plans (you might ask). So, let’s get into it.

An Afternoon in Town

While everyone is doing the mad dash of Christmas Gift buying, I love to head into town for an afternoon of eating and drinking with my family. There’s nothing better than knowing that you aren’t a part of the craziness on Christmas Eve and instead having a relaxing drink in your favourite spot.

A Home-Cooked Dinner

Our Christmas Eve tradition for food is normally something that we can whip up in the morning and leave to slow cook throughout the day. That way you can get all of the stress of cooking out of the way before the big Christmas Day dinner and have minimal dishes to wash. Of you’re spending a whole day out in the city centre, you don’t want to be cooking later that night!

Wrapping Presents

The one thing that I do love leaving to the last minute is wrapping all of my presents. There’s something about wrapping gifts the night before Christmas that makes me feel extra festive. My usual routine is watching the Nativity films or Elf and gradually making my way through each present. As soon as I’ve wrapped them all up I’ll take them downstairs to put under the tree for the next day.

Films and TV

Sitting down to watch one of your favourite festive films (that was a bit of a mouthful) is one of the best parts of my Christmas Eve. Whack on your new set of Christmas pyjamas and get comfortable by the fire for a cosy night. Speaking of films, what’s a Christmas film without some of your favourite snacks? Grab yourself a snack and your ideal Christmas cocktail and enjoy the last bit of relaxation before the Christmas Day madness!

Do you have Christmas Eve traditions that you stick to every year? Are you guilty of being a last minute shopper or are you with me and relaxing at home this year?

I like to save my gift wrapping for the 23rd or the 24th as well! Doing such a festive activity while popping on a Christmas film, knowing that the next day begins the fun, is one of my favourite things to do xx
