Let the festivities begin! As you’re reading this I’ll be on my way back home for the Winter holidays for a lovely month away from university. With time away from the stress of deadlines I finally have the chance to start to get into my morning routines again. I don’t know about anyone else but I always have a bit of a routine whenever I’m home from university. Now that I’m back for the Winter I thought it might be interesting to share my Winter break morning routine.
One of the best parts of being home for the holidays is the lying in that I get to do. I’ll normally set myself an emergency alarm for 10:30 or 11:00am so that I don’t sleep in too much but I definitely enjoy a lie in when I’m home. I’m a bit of a night owl and I often feel most productive in the evenings. Unfortunately this means that I have a habit of going to bed at 12am. So, with all the late nights it’s necessary for me to have a bit of a lie in to function properly.
Cleaning My Room
Something that I’ve always done is make my bed as soon as I wake up. It automatically makes me feel like I have a bit of my life together and starts my day off with a bit of productivity. I just don’t understand how people don’t make their beds when they get up (or at all!). Your room just feels a lot tidier once you’ve made your bed! I’ll also just put any clothes away that I left out from the night before.
I know there’s a bit of split between people that eat breakfast and people that don’t. For me, breakfast is a must. Pretty much every day my go-to will be a bowl of porridge where I’ll usually chop up a banana and throw it in. I’ll either top it with some homemade jam or frozen berries – depending on what I have in stock.
Catch Up on Blogs/YouTube etc.
Being away from university means having time to actually read blog posts and watch some of my favourite YouTube videos. I like to do this during (if I’m eating alone) and after my breakfast to give me time to relax before I get started with the day. That’s one of the perks of having no deadlines, relaxation time. Recently I’ve been absolutely loving Danielle Carolan’s YouTube channel for a bit of a productivity boost. If you haven’t checked out her videos then definitely get on that!
A Quick Workout
After giving myself some time post-breakfast I’ll do a quick workout (about 4 times a week). When I’m at home I always seem to run a lot more than I do at university. I think because I can use the treadmill at home I’m slightly more inclined (pardon the pun!) to keep up my running. That’s not to say that I don’t exercise at university because I do. It’s just that my exercises at university are sport related as I’m part of a lacrosse society where I train three times a week. Running is one of my favourite workouts to do at home because I don’t need to leave the house to do it! Just pop on one of your favourite playlists and go for it, you’ll feel amazing for the rest of the day.
Shower and Get Ready
Finally I’ll have a quick post-workout shower and get ready for the day. Even if I’m just doing something simple like staying in all day it’s still nice to put on some of my favourite lounge wear to get in the festive spirit. My go-to lounge wear is a hoodie, leggings and big fluffy socks. There’s nothing better to wear to watch your favourite Christmas films and drink a coffee in.
