Happy Thursday everyone! I don’t know about you but Thursday’s are one of my favourite (maybe even my favourite) days of the week. I think it’s because the weekend is so close and Friday is normally such a chilled day that I always feel like the weekend is already here when it’s Thursday. Anyway, if you’ve been following me on Twitter then you’ll know that I get the train a LOT.
Since I’m away at university I often travel back home whenever I can and when I do I always take the train. I was on my way back to university from visiting home the other week and I thought that it might be interesting to do a little what’s in my bag style post but with my essentials for train travel. I’m such a sucker for a good what’s in my bag post and always seem to find myself watching them on YouTube (I think it’s a slight obsession). Surely I can’t be alone in finding it entertaining to see what other people carry in their bags so I’ve put together a list of what you’ll usually find me carrying in my bag when I travel!
Magazine or Book
I always bring a magazine and a book with me on a train because my journey back home from university is over 3 hours long so there’s plenty of reading time! My go-to magazine is definitely Vogue – I’ve been a fan for a years and have been buying it monthly for at least a year now. As for a book, I’ve currently just started reading The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time so I obviously had to feature that in this post!
I’m one of those people that brings sunglasses with them at all times. I will never understand the people that think it’s weird to wear sunglasses when it’s cold outside like??? it can be cold and still bright at the same time! They aren’t exactly a train essential but they could be when you get off the train. My train journey home is half way across the UK so the weather could be completely different when I get on compared to when I get off. The last thing I want is to step off the train and be blinded by the sun – I need to be prepared at all times!
This is something that I carry with me absolutely everywhere that I go – especially when I travel to and from London for the day just because I’m around a lot of people. When you’re a student you’re constantly around so many other students so a hand sanitizer is an absolute must have for me.
This isn’t just a train essential for me, it’s a general LIFE essential. I’m such a huge music lover, always have been and always will so headphones are something that I bring everywhere with me. My love for music has only heightened since I got myself Spotify premium and I’m now constantly listening to music and even creating my own music as well! My go-to earphones are my Sennheiser’s which are in the images however I normally bring my big Sennheiser headphones with me on trains just because the sound is a lot better and I find that I can wear headphones for a longer period of time than I can earphones so they’re ideal for long train rides.
Obviously I have to bring snacks with me! (do you even know me AT ALL?) I have a whole blog post dedicated to my favourite snacks so I’m sure this really isn’t a surprise to any of you. My go-to snack for my train journeys are some kind of nuts or wasabi peas (alongside a cheeky M&S wrap of course). I’ve recently just tried something called Veggie Burst from ALDI, which is where I do my weekly shop, and it’s basically a little packet with one portion of nuts and seeds inside it. I love anything that comes as a single serving because it stops me from eating waaaay more than I’d planned on eating and is just so great for travel.
Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed my little version of what’s in my bag. Let me know what your train essentials are in the comments so I can have a little nose through haha.
