My Train Essentials & Competition!!

Categories Featured, Lifestyle, Travel, University

Happy Thursday everyone! I don’t know about you but Thursday’s are one of my favourite (maybe even my favourite) days of the week. I think it’s because the weekend is so close and Friday is normally such a chilled day that I always feel like the weekend is already here when it’s Thursday. Anyway, if you’ve been following me on Twitter(if you’re not then go do that now to read my weird and tbh pretty boring tweets) then you’ll know that I get the train a LOT.

Since I’m away at university I often travel back home whenever I can and when I do I always take the train. I was on my way back to university from visiting home the other week and I thought that it might be interesting to do a little what’s in my bag style post but with my essentials for train travel. I’m such a sucker for a good what’s in my bag post and always seem to find myself watching them on YouTube (I think it’s a slight obsession). Surely I can’t be alone in finding it entertaining to see what other people carry in their bags so I’ve put together a list of what you’ll usually find me carrying in my bag when I travel!

Magazine or Book

I always bring a magazine and a book with me on a train because my journey back home from university is over 3 hours long so there’s plenty of reading time! My go-to magazine is definitely Vogue – I’ve been a fan for a years and have been buying it monthly for at least a year now. As for a book, I’ve currently just started reading The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time so I obviously had to feature that in this post!

I’m one of those people that brings sunglasses with them at all times. I will never understand the people that think it’s weird to wear sunglasses when it’s cold outside like??? it can be cold and still bright at the same time! They aren’t exactly a train essential but they could be when you get off the train. My train journey home is half way across the UK so the weather could be completely different when I get on compared to when I get off. The last thing I want is to step off the train and be blinded by the sun – I need to be prepared at all times!

Hand Sanitizer

This is something that I carry with me absolutely everywhere that I go – especially when I travel to and from London for the day just because I’m around a lot of people. When you’re a student you’re constantly around so many other students so a hand sanitizer is an absolute must have for me.

This isn’t just a train essential for me, it’s a general LIFE essential. I’m such a huge music lover, always have been and always will so headphones are something that I bring everywhere with me. My love for music has only heightened since I got myself Spotify premium and I’m now constantly listening to music and even creating my own music as well! My go-to earphones are my Sennheiser’s which are in the images however I normally bring my big Sennheiser headphones with me on trains just because the sound is a lot better and I find that I can wear headphones for a longer period of time than I can earphones so they’re ideal for long train rides.

Obviously I have to bring snacks with me! (do you even know me AT ALL?) I have a whole blog post dedicated to my favourite snacks so I’m sure this really isn’t a surprise to any of you. My go-to snack for my train journeys are some kind of nuts or wasabi peas (alongside a cheeky M&S wrap of course). I’ve recently just tried something called Veggie Burst from ALDI, which is where I do my weekly shop, and it’s basically a little packet with one portion of nuts and seeds inside it. I love anything that comes as a single serving because it stops me from eating waaaay more than I’d planned on eating and is just so great for travel.

Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed my little version of what’s in my bag. Let me know what your train essentials are in the comments so I can have a little nose through haha.

  1. Snacks and headphones are my go to!! Can’t be anything worse than having no music to listen to and being hungry halfway through your journey!

  2. I love reading these types of posts! I read Curious Incident a few years back and then went to see the theatre production in London I hope you enjoy it I absolutely loved it! You’re lucky that you can read while travelling though it makes me super sick!

    1. Oh cool, the theatre production sounded amazing! I’ve been meaning to read the book for ages but have only just got round to it. Aw that’s such a shame! Xx

    1. Hahaha I’m the same in my day to day handbag but my travel bag is the only thing I keep organised 😂 thanks for the comment! Xx

  3. I do bring sunglasses as well on the train when I used to work at London Bridge. I use them when I’m snoozing off the train just in case someone takes a photo of me whilst snoozing with my mouth open they would not be able to recognize me easily. haha. Headphones definitely a must. Great post.

    1. Hahaha I love that idea! I might have to give that a go next time I feel like snoozing 😂 thank you for the comment! Xx

  4. Ah yes something to read is a must have for me too, otherwise I would go crazy bored, sometimes I might listen to some podcasts, but usually I’m all for a good book. And I cannot imagine going anywhere without a hand sanitizer when I’m out I need to have it on me. I also throw in a snack (nuts or homemade granola are my favs) and a bottle of water (I’m always thirsty when commuting hah). Awesome post! 🙂
